Mahmood Farooqui speaking at "Khayal Gayaki pe Khayal"

Think India is delighted to present as its first Guest Blog, this brilliant oration on Khayal by writer and Dastango Mahmood Farooqui who attended the recently concluded "Khayal Gayaki Pe Khayal" programme organised by Bhagyam Arts & Ideas on 20 April 2024 at Jawahar Bhawan in New Delhi.

Mahmood Farooqui attended "Khayal Gayaki pe Khayal" as "First Rasik" and delivered this address on Khayal music, in which he elaborates the concepts of "khayal", "ras", "sadhana", "bhakti",  "rang" and "raag" in music and Indian aesthetics drawing from an abundance of subjects including sufi-ism, modernism, Urdu, Farsi, Prakrit, Braj and English poetry, the historic exchange that took place on the sub-continent between Persian and Sanskritic aesthetic traditions, the poet-Kings of India, and last but not the least, the spirit of the current times on our political landscape, all beautifully put together in a neatly composed and engaging presentation that was itself like a well-presented Khayal.
